Now I have most of my audio/visual materials its time for me to structure the project as a perfomer, I’ve thinking a lot about how i am going to present my work.
I keep everything as simple as possible when I am perfoming live but I deicided for the final show I am going to try new way of performing. I am going to use my laptop for the audio/visual mixing but i am also going to use mp3 player for the soundtrack. so with my dj mixer i have 2 channels, channel 1 is for my laptop and channel 2 is for the mp3 player, the idea is i want to use the mp3 player for interivals of the perfomance and also sound blending mix. I beleive this will give me more time between the mix but also i can make some intersting structure of the project. The style of the perfomance is going to be mixed ranged from live clip triggering to playing pre-audio/visual edited materail but also experiment with live sound mixing.
The main reason i’ve decided to use mixed ranged style is because on each day of the show i can switch the structure of the perfomance, which will give me more options and time to interact with the audience.

For the last few days I been gong through my works to check if things needs to changed or edited in sound and moving images. There was couple of videos I had to re-edit because when i went through the videos i felt it was missing something. Bus ride was re-edited one of the traffic sound and visual series, the reason I re-edited the clip was so i can use more materials and explore the visual languages by experimenting with various camera shots.

At the beginning of the course my project proposal was based on the digital environment in relation to the sound and visual. however I quickly realised that I didn’t have a clear view of the project in terms of research and idea. But I was intersted in the idea of network environemnt and that we are surrounded by information and data. By exploring the idea of the network envrionment, i’ve exeprimented with the sound created by the machines and explored the idea through moving image; That its something we can’t see but is constantly presented in the morden world.
There is also the idea of data/infomation courruption, i am fascinated by the glitch and broken code of digtial media. I believe that something that is imperfect has more meaning than something that is perfect.

More traffic sound/visaul work from the traffic series. With the edit I didn’t concertrate on trying to be detailed with synchronising the visual to the sound but I was more open with the visual. I’ve misplaced the sounds with the visual to experniment with the realtionship.

Water drip was recorded by the river in canary wharf, I was trying out few things with my camera especailly with close-ups and the zoom settings. I’ve noticed that my camera response well with high contrast tones while it dosen’t work so well with dark toned settings. When i zoomed right into the river, i’ve managed to capture the flow which was created with the combination of the river and the setting of the camera.
The soundtrack is built with collection of various water drips and i’ve decided to use few audio processing such as delays and reverse to stretch the limit of sound and deconstruct the structure of the sound.
In John Cage’s interview he mentions how sound is acting and sound reacts to eachother. In water drip I wanted to take on the idea of ‘sound activity’ by the structure of the soundtrack and explore through the language of the moving image. In the edit of water drip it was very detailed, the original sequence of the visaul ended up being chopped into hundreds of sequences and reconstructed in relation to the soundtrack. It was long but interesting process and by the process of construting and deconstruting the two mediums I was starting to build my own language of the relationship between sound and image.

City light was filmed while ago, i was coming back from a night out on DLR train and I filmed by the window of the train. Like in my previous footages I purposly set the zoom out of focus on my camera to get the dreamy light effect which works well in the dark.
Before I’ve started to edit the sound and visaul, I thought about how i was going to edit the footage and what sound i was going to use. Originally i wanted to cut the footages into multi sequences and reconstruct the visual in synch with the sound. However I’ve changed my mind during halfway through the edit, i decided to keep it ‘minimal’ with the sound and visual. By looking at the footage serveral times, I thought that it wasn’t necessary to cut the footage into multi sequences and by keeping it simple it became more effective. for example the soundtrack is really basic and i didn’t really do much to it and same goes for the visual i hardly edited at all, also i kept the length of the video only 28sec in total. there is something about the visual of city lights that seems personal to me, the concept of the city light is the natural effects of the envrionment. the soundtrack is a sample of a city/street, the visual is filming a city/street at night time on a train but blured becasue of the setting of the camera. It almost seems like the lights represent whats going on in the city/street and the sound supports the relationship that is happening in the video.
so i was experinmenting with natural effects that is created by our surroundings like car lights, lamps, bulldings and so on.. it was intersting to capture these natural motions which was the main reason i kept everything barly touched in relation to editing.

The soundtrack used for the this clip is a sound of a airplane taking off. it has a nice dragging sounds and almost builds up to the climax. what i tried to do with the footage was to use slow motion to fill the gap of the sound. the visual was filmed at night time and when i was recroding the camera zoom went out of focus which responded well with the lights.

The soundtrack used for the footage was the same sondtrack used for symposium presentation/video, but i’ve used different visuals to create ‘traffic’ sound/visual series. Influenced by a interview with John Cage on silence, the most common sound of silence is ‘traffic’ and I wanted to take on the idea of silence. The symposium video was filmed by the window in my room, it was intersting after listening to John Cage’s interview I’ve realized that right outside my flat is a busy road. All the time when i am in my room i could constaly hear sound of traffic but now i am so use to the noise i never notice the sounds outside my flat . Listening to John cage’s interview it made me think about how the ‘everyday’ sound effects my lifestyle and the meaning of sound.
The new traffic footage is different to the symposium footage, i used different camera angels and different scenery to try out various methods of editing the footage, but the idea behind the sound and visual is similar.
At the start of the video the shot of the camera looks down to the road, it reminds me of Grand thef auto the game. i used to play that game a lot and always like the from the top view.
I’ve luckliy found a buldiing where it had really cool mirrored windows where it reflected the road opposite the building. I had to film it and i’ve got some interseting footages and it made me think about how I could structure the audio with the footage.

Filmed in Liverpool street station, i wanted to film a busy area where i could film lots of people without paying or asking them… I originally wanted to film at peak rush hour so I could record hundreds of people but i decided to try out when it was less busy. I think it worked out okay with the edit becasue maybe it wouldn’t worked out if there was too much in the footage. The style of the visual and the soundtrack is influenced by Steve Reich, I wanted push the limit of the visual and the sound by deconstructing the mediums. How much I can explore with a 2 second visual with limted sound, by experimenting with looping, tempo and sound editing. Also by limiting myself, I’ve created a new process of editing which this footage was produced by.
the soundtrack is a sample recorded in train station, I was looking for a sample where people were talking but can’t make out what they were saying. The way I’ve structure the soundtrack was similar to ‘It’s Gonna rain’ by Steve Reich. I’ve used a single looped sample and over-laid with eachother as the soundtrack progressed, so it started normaly and by the end the unreconizable sound is the sound of dozens of identical sample being played at the same time. By experinmeting with the idea of deconstructing the everyday sound I was getting intersting results. I feel that this footage and previous materals i been posting has strong bond between myself and the sound, i find that when i hear certain sound my mind trigger images.
